Tell Congress: Let the EPA do its job!

by Suzanne Bonamici

Not all of my colleagues in Congress believe it, but the science is clear - climate change is causing irreversible damage to our world, and the ongoing release of greenhouse gases is a major cause.

Across the world, glaciers and ice caps are beginning to fall apart and melt into the ocean. And as warmer water expands, it eventually takes up more space. Scientists tell us that if warming continues, a rise in sea level of 10 feet or more may be unavoidable. This would be devastating for coastal cities in Oregon and around the globe.

We cannot wait any longer. Please sign this petition to encourage Congress to join the fight against climate change!

The U.S. has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent below the 2005 levels by the year 2020. This is an important step toward turning back the threat of climate change.

The good news? This goal is within reach, but only if the Environmental Protection Agency is able to put regulations in place to aggressively cut emissions from new and existing power plants. Regulations like this not only protect the environment, they also spur development of new technologies and new jobs.

The challenge? Some leaders in Congress are threatening to stop the EPA from taking this critical step.

We need you to stand up and show support for the EPA and their efforts to take on climate change. Please join me. Add your name. Tell Congress to support the EPA’s clean power plan!
