Statement on Science Subcommittee Assignments

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici recently received her second committee and subcommittee assignments for the 114th Congress. In addition to the Education & Workforce Committee, she will continue to serve on the Science, Space & Technology Committee. She will sit on the Research & Technology Subcommittee and the Environment Subcommittee, where she will serve as Ranking Member. Here's her statement:

“Protecting our environment is good for our planet and the long-term stability of our economy. As I resume my leadership role as Ranking Member on the Environment Subcommittee, I recommit to defending vulnerable ecosystems and promoting sustainable use of our natural resources. Serving on this subcommittee will provide opportunities to advocate for investments in clean energy technology to help grow our economy, create jobs in new industries, and keep our country competitive.”

“Similarly, the Subcommittee on Research and Technology focuses on issues that are particularly important to my constituents. Northwest Oregon is home to an array of innovative businesses, developing everything from state-of-the art microprocessors to cutting-edge footwear and apparel. These companies are growing and hiring new workers in part because of advances in federally supported scientific research. Their growth is also bolstered by the subcommittee’s role in pursuing robust federal policies that support STEM education initiatives. I look forward to continuing my work on these issues and gaining greater familiarity with others so I can best represent the constituents of Oregon’s First District.”
