A teacher knows

It’s National Teacher Appreciation Day.

It’s a day to recognize and thank the incredible teachers in our lives.

I owe so much to my teachers – from elementary school to law school. A good education goes beyond what happens in the classroom – great teachers inspire their students and instill a lifelong love of learning.

Last year I worked hard to shape and pass the bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act, which replaced No Child Left Behind. The new law empowers teachers, moves away from high-stakes testing, and encourages critical thinking and problem solving. It paves the way for states and school districts to have more freedom to provide a high-quality, well-rounded education to their students.

Teachers know how to best serve the students in their classrooms, and this law recognizes the importance of that teacher-student relationship.

Here’s to our teachers!
