Protecting women’s reproductive rights and improving access to reproductive health care

This priority is simple. Politicians should not be making private health care decisions for women. Oregonians can always count on me to stand up for reproductive rights and work to increase access to family planning and health care services for all women, particularly low-income women and those with geographic barriers.

As a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, I am leading the charge to repeal the Hyde Amendment and make safe, legal abortion accessible to all women. I also introduced the 21st Century Women’s Health Act to make comprehensive preventive health services - including full access to contraceptive coverage - available for all women, including those served by Medicaid. And I’ve led a group of colleagues in calling for the Department of Health & Human Services to follow Oregon’s lead and require insurance companies to cover birth control 12 months at a time.

Sadly, there are still a number of anti-choice members of Congress who are determined to roll back women’s reproductive rights, defund Planned Parenthood, and block access to health care. They refuse to acknowledge that access to contraceptives and reproductive health care are proven to reduce health costs for individuals and the health care system as a whole, as well as reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and abortions.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have fought against each and every effort to overturn Roe vs. Wade or defund Planned Parenthood. Oregonians can trust me to stand up for women’s rights, to fight for access to contraception, and to protect Planned Parenthood. I am incredibly honored to have the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and to have earned Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon’s Marilyn Epstein Pro-Choice Champion Award in 2016.
