Thank you for everything!
The votes are in and the results are clear. I am truly humbled by your resounding show of support and the opportunity to serve another term. Representing you in Congress is an honor that I take very seriously, and I will do my best to make you proud.
With six elections in three years, I’ve had to ask for a lot of help. Thank you for standing with me. By volunteering your time, talking to your neighbors, proudly displaying a lawn sign, or donating to the campaign, you made this victory possible.
As I turn my attention back toward Congress, I know we have a tough road ahead – but I remain optimistic. I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few years talking with people here in NW Oregon. I’ve spoken with seniors, students, and scientists. Factory workers, farmers, fishers, and filmmakers. I’ve sat down with moms, veterans, business owners, and people just working hard to try to get ahead. And I found more areas that we have in common than places where we differ.
Everyone wants a healthy economy with ample jobs, and great public schools where students are engaged and love learning. Some want to refinance their student loans; others wonder if they will be able to pay for college for their kids. They want affordable childcare and access to good healthcare. They care about the health of their families and the health of the planet, and everyone wants clean air and water. They want a level playing field, where everyone has opportunities regardless of who they are or where they grew up.
And throughout my conversations, I haven’t met anyone who thinks it would be acceptable for the next generation to have fewer opportunities than the generation before them.
We can start there. With the right attitude and willingness to look for the places of agreement, rather than the areas of discord, I know we can move forward together.
I’ll continue to go to work every day determined to get things done. I’ll continue to seek out partners who are willing to find common ground and build on the successes in the last Congress – protecting the health of our oceans, investing in job training, and making the cost of college loans easier to understand. But there is so much more that can and must be accomplished.
Knowing that you are with me means a lot. Please stay in touch over the coming months. Your thoughts and input are tremendously valuable. You can reach me through my website, at [email protected], or on Facebook!
Thank you again for everything!
With great appreciation, Suzanne
