Sign the petition: end the slaughter of elephants!

This is disturbing.

Many of us have heard about the practices ivory poachers use, so it’s hard to imagine the ivory trade being alive and well in the U.S. – but sadly, it is!

It’s estimated that poachers kill approximately 35,000 African elephants every year to supply ivory for jewelry and luxury goods around the world, including the U.S. They use extremely cruel practices – even ripping off the elephants’ tusks while they are still alive or poisoning their water supply, affecting all the wildlife in the area.

That's just wrong, and the U.S. should not participate in this barbaric industry. I’ve joined Congressman Peter Defazio in cosponsoring legislation that will impose tough economic sanctions on countries that allow the ivory trade.

Let's put an end to the ivory trade. Sign the petition: tell Congress to pass the TUSKER Act!

Poachers and traffickers are taking advantage of weak laws and regulations to make fortunes. As long as we turn a blind eye, we’re allowing them to continue to torture, maim, and kill elephants and other endangered species. There’s also evidence suggesting that money from the ivory trade is funneling into the pockets of organized crime and terrorist groups around the world.

There are many reasons to stop the ivory trade. Add your name today to urge Congress to pass the TUSKER Act right away.

With appreciation,
