This bad budget

by Suzanne Bonamici

A federal budget is a statement of our values as a country. For Trump and the Trump administration, that means hurting children and seniors, and ignoring the most vulnerable in our communities.

The Trump-DeVos budget is especially harmful to public education. It cuts billions of dollars from the Education Department – funding that is critical to equity and opportunity for millions of children across the country.

Public schools are the foundation of our communities, and federal funding is about civil rights; it helps level the playing field for low-income students and students with disabilities. Trump's budget ignores this commitment by cutting funding to give tax breaks to the wealthy. But they won’t get away with it if we fight back. Please donate today to join me in fighting for our public schools!

Trump’s budget targets art and science courses that students rely on to help them excel in our innovation economy. It also slashes educational programs the help teachers learn new skills, and it slashes work study and career and technical education. And shamefully, they propose ending student loan programs that make higher education a reality for students who most need financial help.

In 2015, I worked hard to pass the bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act to end No Child Left Behind and provide greater equity in public schools, more autonomy for teachers, and more engaging, well-rounded education. All of that is threatened by this budget.

Donald Trump’s budget proposal is bad for everyone – from children to parents to seniors. I will do everything I can to oppose this harmful budget proposal.

Let’s show Trump and DeVos that their budget doesn’t match our values – please make a donation today!
