We won't go back, Betsy DeVos
Unfortunately, one in five women will experience sexual assault on campus.
We must do more to prevent campus sexual assault, and to make sure that survivors are treated with respect, compassion, and dignity. Under President Obama and Vice President Biden’s leadership, we were finally making progress. Best practices were developed for colleges and universities to respond to and help prevent sexual assault
But Betsy DeVos and her top civil rights deputy Candice Jackson at the Department of Education are threatening to reverse our progress.
Last week, Jackson made reprehensible and false victim-blaming remarks about Title IX sexual assault investigations—words so offensive they’re not worth repeating. Jackson later apologized, but she is unfit to serve in an office that is responsible for protecting students and enforcing civil rights.
Every student deserves access to education—and that includes the right to feel safe and be safe on campus.
I’m fighting to protect the progress we’ve made for survivors of campus sexual assault. We will not go back.
Thank you for standing with me
