Don’t turn back the clock on fighting campus sexual assault
Betsy DeVos and Donald Trump’s Department of Education are threatening to undermine protections for sexual assault survivors. They've signaled that colleges and universities can retreat on procedures to improve sexual assault response and prevention.
About one in five women will be sexually assaulted at college. That’s unacceptable, and for years campus sexual assault was swept under the rug and not taken seriously. The Obama Administration took action and provided guidance under Title IX that has helped colleges and universities train faculty and set up systems that promote safety.
Every case of campus sexual violence should be taken seriously. Every student deserves to feel safe and be safe on campus. Share this post on Facebook if you agree!
I don’t trust the Trump administration to protect students and enforce civil rights – and I’m going to fight back.
My message to Secretary DeVos is this: Take Title IX and campus sexual assault seriously. Do everything in your power to make students be and feel safe on campus.
