The State of the Union address we should be hearing

We can anticipate what Trump will brag about in his State of the Union.

What won't we hear about? Working people and the issues they face every day.

Here's what we need to be talking about at the State of the Union:

• Protecting the rights of women, immigrants, and people of color.
• Safeguarding the environment, curbing climate change, and promoting clean energy.
• Funding public education and health care.
• Building affordable housing.
• Aggressively addressing the opioid crisis, including funding for prevention and treatment.
• A robust infrastructure proposal that supports rural communities, grows our economy, and generates living-wage jobs.

Listening to Trump boast about his tax giveaway that benefits the wealthiest will make me even more determined than ever to keep up the fight in Congress so that everyone has a voice – not just those at the top.
