Balancing the budget on the backs of hungry families
We're one of the wealthiest nations on Earth. No one in the United States should go hungry. Ever.
Cutting food assistance to families who have fallen on hard times shouldn't even be an option.
But that's exactly what Republicans in Congress have tried to do time and time again.
The GOP's recent Farm Bill slashes funding for SNAP, which is the nation's most important anti-hunger program. The Farm Bill has been put on hold because of Republican infighting, but they aren't done yet. We must be prepared to stop these dangerous cuts.
The leadership in Congress is trying to balance the budget on the backs of hungry families after giving huge tax breaks to wealthy corporations and billionaires.
Most of the households receiving SNAP include a child, senior, or person with a disability. Most SNAP recipients who can work already do so.
As long as I am in Congress, I will focus on addressing the root causes of hunger. Let's cut poverty, not nutrition assistance.
Thank you for standing with me,
