Another shutdown?

We’re just days away from Christmas, and Trump and the Republicans have forced the government into another shutdown over funding for an impractical and unnecessary border wall. This is yet another example of the inability of Republicans to govern and another display of Trump’s irresponsible leadership.

A few days ago, Trump said he would be “proud to shut down the government.” Yet who will be feeling the effects? Many hard-working Americans who will be doing their jobs over the holidays without pay, not knowing when their next paycheck will arrive.

I can think of countless worthy programs we could fund with the more than $5 billion dollars Trump wants for a border wall: early childhood education, rural broadband, nutrition programs for the vulnerable, renewable energy, affordable housing, and the list goes on.

The American people deserve better.
