Repairing our democracy
On Friday, Congress took a major step by passing an election reform bill to repair our democracy.
This sweeping democracy reform bill will clean up corruption in Washington and return power to the people. The bill covers a lot, but three areas stand out to me:
Strengthen access to democracy:
- expand automatic voter registration
- end partisan gerrymandering
- require paper ballots
- crackdown on voter suppression
Impose high ethical standards:
- hold members of Congress and the President to higher standards of ethics
- require presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns
- end the 'revolving door' of high-level government employees lobbying their agencies within two years of leaving
Address big money in elections:
- empower grassroots donors
- improve campaign contribution disclosures
- require Super PACs to disclose their donors
This legislation could change a lot of what's wrong in Washington. It has my support.
Thank you for standing with me and for the people,
