I stand with Moms
It's hard – but important – to listen to the stories of survivors of gun violence and the friends and family of victims who lost their lives to gun violence. Thank you to Moms Demand Action for organizing the recent rally and march for gun violence prevention.
Nationwide, gun violence claims nearly 100 lives every day. Annually, guns kill almost twice as many children as cancer does.
It's a public health crisis. And our movement has the power to stop it.
This year, the U. S. House passed a bipartisan bill to require universal background checks for all gun sales. And last year, the Oregon Legislature closed the "boyfriend" loophole to prevent abusive partners and stalkers from legally purchasing a gun.
These actions save lives. But they're just first steps.
We must do more. Prohibit the sale or possession of high-capacity magazines. Reinstate the ban on military-style assault weapons. Fund research into gun violence as a public health issue.
Every day of inaction ends dozens of lives and shatters hundreds of others. I'm determined to keep up the fight until no more families are haunted by an entirely preventable epidemic.
Thank you for standing with me and against gun violence.
