It's not a drill!
Donald Trump is planning to open up America's coastlines to oil drilling. This giveaway to the oil and gas industry would devastate habitats and put coastal communities at risk for ecological disasters.
The potential of oil drilling or exploration poses a grave threat to several industries that sustain local economies, especially fishing and tourism. As Oregonians, we know that a threat to any ocean is a threat to our own coasts. We must stand together with progressives and environmentalists on the East Coast and across the country and tell Trump: NO offshore drilling.
Here in Oregon, tourism accounts for more than 100,000 jobs, and visitors spend about $11 billion in the state each year. Commercial and sport fishing and seafood processing also make significant contributions to Oregon's economy. The story is similar for communities on the Atlantic seaboard.
It's been decades since the waters off of Oregon have been targeted for oil or gas drilling, and for good reasons:
- strong opposition from state and local governments,
- the ardent support of our community members for a clean coastline,
- and there's little to gain, and so much at risk.
Let's share our strength: sign the petition: tell the Trump administration NO coastal oil drilling.
Thank you for standing with me, and against drilling off of our coasts.
