The Hyde Amendment
Restrictions on abortion do not make it go away; they make it less safe.
But for more than four decades, the Hyde Amendment, which bans abortion coverage under government-funded health plans, has remained the law of the land.
The Hyde Amendment disproportionately affects low-income women, young women, rural women, and especially women of color.
With Democrats back in control of Congress, legislation in the House has eliminated the Hyde Amendment for the first time in 45 years.
For my entire career, I've fought to protect access to abortion, contraception, and women's health care. And with the leadership of strong women in the Democratic party and our allies across the country, our movement is bigger than ever.
With the ongoing threats to Roe and access to safe and legal abortions under constant attack, it's time to increase the pressure and end this discriminatory rule.
