We have real problems to solve, no matter who holds the gavel
At this point in time, there is no functioning U.S. House of Representatives. Because the House has not elected a Speaker, we cannot adopt rules, members can't be sworn in, and we can't debate and pass legislation. The House sits in limbo.
Unfortunately, Republicans have allowed extremism to infiltrate and thrive within their party. And now the Republican majority is engaged in infighting and incompetence that has caused the House to come to a standstill. They continue to put power and spectacle over the needs of the American people.
It's inexcusable.
Let me be clear, this Republican chaos is not helping anyone. We have real problems to solve, no matter who holds the gavel. Democrats are united in our pursuit of policy that will improve the lives of Oregonians and Americans, and we'd like to get to work.
This does not bode well for what's to come: Republican division and incompetence will likely continue through this Congress.
Throughout it all, I will stay focused on what matters most: serving the people I'm honored to represent, and working for a better future. Will you please stand with me?
With appreciation,
Suzanne
