Lessons from my mother
It's Mother's Day, a time to honor and celebrate the remarkable women who have played a pivotal role in shaping our lives.
My mother had a profound influence on me, and the lessons I learned from her formed my core values.
Growing up, my mother led by example and taught my brothers and me to stand up for justice. When the church we were attending in the 1960s would not take a stand on civil rights, she moved us to a congregation that did.
She grew a beautiful organic vegetable garden and taught us to recycle and reuse. She knew how important it is to preserve our planet for future generations.
A piano teacher and painter, Mom filled the house with music and art. As a small business owner, she instilled in me the value of hard work.
I am deeply grateful for everything my mother taught me. She shaped me into the mother and leader I am today.
I am committed to passing policies that support mothers everywhere, including expanding access to affordable child care, stopping book banning, ending discrimination, and protecting the environment for future generations.
And to all the incredible moms out there, Happy Mother's Day!
