A Speaker extreme enough to satisfy the Republicans.
After 22 days, House Republicans found a Speaker extreme enough to satisfy them.
Rather than working with Democrats to find a bipartisan solution, Republicans unanimously elected little-known Congressman Mike Johnson. Although he may not be as famous as McCarthy, Jordan, or Scalise, he is just as extreme. And maybe more.
Mike Johnson was one of the key players in the attempt to overturn the 2020 election and the Electoral College objections on January 6.
Mike Johnson's extremism doesn't stop at election-denying. He has a long history of trying to gut and privatize Americans' earned Social Security and Medicare benefits. He is in full support of a national abortion ban and authored a federal "Don't Say Gay" bill. And at a time when we must address the climate crisis, he's a climate skeptic.
And every single House Republican voted for him.
In Congress, I'll continue to work for a better future for Oregonians by addressing the climate crisis, protecting Social Security and Medicare, lowering costs, restoring reproductive rights, and protecting public education.
Thank you for standing with me,
Suzanne
