Safe and stable housing – here’s how we get it done

Oregon is facing an unprecedented affordable housing and homelessness crisis. But we are also leading successful solutions like Project Turnkey, which transforms lives by getting families and individuals into safe and stable housing. And I'm working to bring these solutions to the rest of the country.

We can address homelessness and the housing crisis by providing flexible housing assistance that can quickly convert unused buildings like hotels and motels into affordable housing and emergency shelters.

These issues are not unique to Oregon; they're part of a complex problem affecting communities in every state whether they are large, small, urban, or rural. In Congress, I'm working to expand programs to convert vacant buildings like hotels, motels, and offices into affordable housing and emergency shelters. This approach will:

  • Provide direct support to people at risk of losing housing through rental, security deposit, and utility bill assistance
  • Promote homeownership with down payment assistance and housing counseling
  • Repair and expand emergency shelters to provide safe places to transition off the street and into stable housing
  • Reduce the costs of providing supportive housing and homelessness prevention services
  • Housing and homelessness are key issues for Oregonians. With Project Turnkey, we can address the housing crisis while also revitalizing downtowns.

It's a win-win, and I'm honored to lead the effort in Congress.

Thank you for standing with me,

Suzanne
