I voted no

A budget is a statement of values, and the budget the Republicans passed is cruel, unnecessary, and extreme. It requires $800+ billion in cuts that will come from important programs like Medicaid. This is a direct threat to health care for more than a million Oregonians, including children, and millions of Americans. Medicaid has made the country healthier and safer since it was established 60 years ago.

Bottom line: this budget will take away health care from the most vulnerable to give tax cuts to billionaires and wealthy corporations. I voted no, and so did every other House Democrat.

People across the country are struggling with higher costs of living. They see it in grocery prices, medical bills, housing, and childcare. Unfortunately, Republicans' only plan does nothing to help.

When I envision a better future, I see good jobs and better wages, humane and just immigration policies, well-funded public schools with art and music programs, affordable and accessible health care, reproductive freedom, civil rights, and a healthy planet for generations to come. That's the better future Democrats are fighting for.

I will do everything in my power to keep this budget from becoming law. It’s deeply harmful and the American people are stepping up and showing their disapproval.

Thank you for standing with me,

Suzanne
