Schools need more funding. ICE needs less.
We'd be better off as a nation if we redirected ICE's enormous budget to public education, pre-K through college.
Ongoing disinvestment in education – along with $75 billion dollars in funding for ICE in the Big, Ugly Bill – means rising costs on states, schools, parents, and kids.
I worked my way through community college, college, and law school with loans, grants and work-study and graduated with a manageable amount of debt. That's just not possible today.
Well-rounded, fully funded public education is critical to democracy, the economy, and our future, and that's why I've spent my life – and my congressional career – fighting for it.
Lack of funding for education is a policy choice.
We have the money to do it, but House Republicans are voting for terror, abuse, and mass deportation instead of investing in kids, college, and trade schools.
Public education changed my life. And over the years I've heard from many people about how it changed theirs, too. In Congress, I will always vote to fund and support children and families through the transformative power of education.
Thank you for standing with me,
Suzanne
