No one should deny our new reality

Right now, there are "very unhealthy" air quality alerts in multiple states across the country. Wildfire season is starting earlier, lasting longer, and causing significant harm.

Instead of planning for mitigation strategies, preparedness, and resilient infrastructure, President Trump and congressional Republicans are gutting federal funding to respond to natural disasters.

The harmful choices of this administration and Republicans in Congress mean people will suffer and communities could be destroyed.

Local economies, agriculture, and livelihoods rely on functioning government agencies to forecast the weather, monitor storms, fund wildfire prevention, and help clean up and rebuild after disasters.

I'm advocating for predictable funding, more firefighters, and better coordination between state and federal officials. But we also must mitigate wildfires in the long term: better forest management, decreasing carbon emissions, building resilient cities and infrastructure, and increasing our use of renewable energy are all important.

No one should deny our new reality. It's hotter, drier, and storms are more frequent and more intense. But if we commit to sustained action now, we can mitigate the worst damage and improve the outlook for future generations.
